If you are keen to try out some of your favourite digital entertainment content using something with a slightly bigger screen and more computing power than your average smartphone but don’t want something as big and clunky or restrictive as a desktop computer or laptop, then you may want to consider playing from a tablet device.
I’ve tried some of my favourites, including several triple-A blockbuster titles, from a few different tablets over the past five or so years, and during that time, I’ve discovered that most tablets have similar or slightly more powerful processing capabilities than your average smartphone, making them a better choice for play.
Here is a closer look at why tablets are the preferred choice for so many people.
I will also reveal several reasons why tablets are best for this type of leisurely activity, especially compared to any other device. We can also take a quick look at a few reliable tablets that are best for playing your favourite hit titles.
Why Tablets Are an Excellent Choice for Gaming
If you want to start getting serious about gameplaying like me but can’t see yourself getting a more powerful device, such as a desktop computer, laptop, or console, such as a Playstation or Xbox, and you would rather not play on mobile from a smartphone, then your next best option would be a tablet.
We have now reached the point where tablets can be used for various activities, not just taking pictures, reading, watching videos, and surfing the web. They’re also great for playing.
The best tablets are also now powerful enough to handle even the high-end, more graphically demanding hits.
I can’t stand playing my favourites on tiny smartphone screens, and I’m not a massive fan of having to play on a PC because I like the freedom of being able to move around whenever I want, which is impossible with desktop computers and challenging at best with a laptop.
This is where I think tablets come in handy. Here are some of the main reasons why I believe that tablets are an excellent choice for playing over smartphones and PCs:
- Screen size – as mentioned, tablets have bigger screens than smartphones, meaning those like me who want a more captivating and immersive visual experience will prefer playing on a tablet rather than a smartphone and won’t strain your eyes. The content you play looks better, and the bigger screen size increases overall gameplay quality
- Mobility – tablets are easily mobile and can be used almost anywhere, unlike desktop computers and laptops, which are far more restrictive and cumbersome. They are flexible and manoeuvrable, just like smartphones, despite being slightly larger
- GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) – tablets tend to have more powerful GPUs than the majority of smartphones, which means superior visuals (graphics/animations) and smoother gameplay, which is super important for me
- Processing power – tablets often have more powerful processing capabilities than smartphones, which means you will have no issues playing the more high-end AAA titles
- Battery life – you can play your favourite titles for longer periods on a table because the battery life is typically much better than most smartphone batteries
Today, you can play on your smartphone or tablet, laptop or desktop computer because most games have been fully optimised to work well on all devices, which I think is fantastic. However, you may still find that some titles are only available exclusively on certain platforms.
For example, you couldn’t play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on your tablet because this particular title is only available on the PlayStation 5. Similarly, you couldn’t play Fable on your tablet because this one is only available exclusively on Xbox consoles. Most others are cross-platform.
5 tablets That Are Ideal For Playing Many of Today’s Most Famous Titles
If you are considering playing your favourite hits on the go and would rather do so from a tablet instead of playing them on a smartphone or PC, then you may want to consider one of these top 5 devices, which I think are a cut above the rest:
- Asus ROG Flow Z13
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S7
- Apple iPad (10th generation)
- Amazon Fire HD 10
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
I can also recommend trying the Apple iPad Pro, the Apple iPad Air, and the Google Pixel Tablet, to name a few trusty tablets.
Final Note
If you decide to purchase one of these top-of-the-range tablets to play your favourite content, always remember to shop around to try and find the best deals.
In other words, I’ve learned from experience not to get carried away and buy something from the first website you visit.
Also, to see which tablet might be a more suitable option based on the types of games you want to play, always take your time to read the expert analysis and the specifications for each device. Doing so will help you find the best tablet for your specific needs.
