Luffy is a popular character in the anime and manga series One Piece. In this article, I will cover 15 characters from different universes that could likely beat Luffy in a fight after being trained by their respective parties.
15 Anime Characters That Could Likely Beat Luffy – “who can beat luffy in anime“
“Sometimes the companionship we earn along the road is more valuable than the rewards we expect to reap at the conclusion of our trip.”
Monkey D. Luffy is one of the few characters in anime that fully embodies this notion.
He’s a lovely, yet obstinate, character that goes above and beyond to defend his Nakama and their well-being.
And I believe we can all agree that he is one of the greatest pirate commanders in the series – and the most likely to succeed as the next Pirate King.
After all of that, how powerful is he in comparison to other anime characters?
Here are a few characters that are capable of defeating this legendary shounen MC.
15. Make an effort
My Hero Academia is an anime series based on the manga My Hero Academia.
The previous Number 2 Hero himself, Enji Todoroki, well known by his hero name Endeavor, is first on our list.
“How come the Number One Hero isn’t here?”
Simple.
It’s because Endeavor, because to his Quirk, has a superior matchup versus Luffy than All Might.
Luffy, being a rubber-based Paramecia Devil Fruit user, has a number of elemental flaws that might jeopardize his fighting prospects.
And, if we consider true science, one of his weaknesses should be heat sensitivity, making Endeavor and his Hellfire a major issue for Luffy.
Noelle Silva (14),
Black Clover is a Japanese anime series.
Noell Silva, whose water power could just be enough to destroy Luffy, is the next character who might exploit our beloved Shounen MC’s vulnerability.
Because of another vulnerability associated with Luffy’s Devil Fruit talents, Noelle may prove to be too tough an opponent for him.
You’ve probably figured it out by now.
He is unable to swim.
And Noelle has demonstrated the ability to control massive amounts of water with her magic, thanks to her massive mana reservoir.
Unless Luffy can attack first, hit hard, and strike without mercy (hats off if you got that), Noelle will have him beat as soon as she performs her first magic.
Hisoka (number thirteen)
Hunter X Hunter is a Japanese anime series.
We’re all aware of it.
Hisoka is a total badass.
What’s scary is that he doesn’t always behave like it, and when he does, he’s really pretty clever and calculated.
Through and through, he’s the ideal high-functioning psychopath.
Oh, and did you know that his Bungee Gum contains both rubber and gum properties? Isn’t it lovely?
Putting jokes aside, Hisoka and Luffy may have similar powers, but there’s no disputing that Hisoka has him beat when it comes to cunning and ruthlessness.
In the instance of these two “rubber guys,” I’m going to have to err on the side of Hisoka since he’s the more deadly and fatal of the two.
Juvia Lockser (nineteen)
Fairy Tail is a Japanese animated television series.
Julia may have spent the most of her screen time snogging Gray, but believe me when I say you don’t want to mess with her.
And after seeing what she looks like and what she’s capable of when she’s in full-on yandere mode, I doubt you’d disagree.
This caution is especially important for Luffy, who has a natural aversion to huge quantities of water.
And, given Juvia’s reputation as one of the best water manipulators in the series, I’m confident she’d have no trouble exploiting Luffy’s weakness with her skills.
11. Kuzan
One Piece is a popular anime series.
Now I’m certain Kuzan isn’t the most powerful character in One Piece.
In fact, he may not even be in the top five! (This may be a contentious viewpoint, but I digress.)
Admiral Aokiji, on the other hand, is one of (if not the) worst characters Luffy could possibly face in his own series, in my opinion.
Rubber doesn’t perform well in the cold, as I’m sure most of us are aware.
Kuzan, for example, was lucky enough to receive one of the most powerful Logia-type Devil Fruits, which allows him to make and manipulate ice.
It’s also something that gives him the ideal counters against Luffy’s Devil Fruit abilities.
Alibaba Saluja is number ten.
Magi (Anime)
Alibaba is still a force to be reckoned with even without his Djinn Equip.
After all, he’s a brilliant swordsman – and a capable combat strategist in his own right.
When he’s equipped with his Djinn Equip, though, he poses a serious danger to even the most formidable foes, including Luffy.
He obtains huge physical stat increases as well as the ability to create and control searing white-hot flames with it.
When you combine it with his superb swordsmanship, he’ll give Luffy a run for his money.
Toshiro Hitsugaya (nine)
Bleach is a Japanese anime series.
Toshiro, like Alibaba, has two advantages over Luffy in terms of the flaws he may exploit.
The first is, of course, his ability to overpower Luffy with his extensive ice skills.
The second advantage isn’t technically a “weakness,” but it harms Luffy’s prospects anyway.
Simply noted, Luffy lacks the range necessary to stay up with Toshiro and Alibaba, both of whom can strike from distance.
Toshiro is also quick enough to keep up with Luffy’s moves, reducing the risk of a speed blitzing upset.
Natsu Dragneel is number eight on the list.
Fairy Tail is a Japanese animated television series.
When it comes to Shounen anime, Natsu has earned the title of “Fire Guy.”
And by that, I mean he’s the primary character and possibly the most well-known fire user in anime.
Recca, I apologize.
Natsu is a Dragon Slayer with practically every great dragon characteristic imaginable.
He can control fire, is fire-resistant, has incredible durability, is physically powerful, and many more abilities.
I’m betting for Natsu since he has an elemental edge against Luffy, yet even if we take that into account, Natsu still has a chance to win.
Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni
Bleach is a Japanese anime series.
I must confess that I was tempted to replace Kuzan with Whitebeard in order to give some older characters a chance.
However, this captain will have to suffice.
Captain Yamamoto, who represents all the tough elderly folks who can also kick some serious ass, burns the competitors to ashes.
This elderly man, armed with the series’ oldest and most powerful element-based zanpakuto, can give anybody in anime a run for their money.
Yamamoto is not only able to fight Luffy’s fire tactics, but he can also keep up with his speed.
This makes this a significantly more difficult match for Luffy, and I’m sure he’ll need more than friendship to win.
Esdeath is number six.
Akame ga Kill! is a Japanese anime.
When it comes to ice users who can defeat any anime character, you’ll seldom hear this vicious ice-name waifu’s mentioned.
She’s simply a lot stronger, quicker, and more nimble than other anime characters, and she’s totally overpowered.
In addition to being able to freeze time itself, she’s been proven to be capable of freezing very large regions using her power.
Only the strongest survive, according to Esdeath’s motto, and I have no concerns about who would emerge victorious in this duel.
5. Genos
One Punch Man is a Japanese anime series.
Genos has had his butt handed to him several times during the program.
In fact, I’d go so far as to argue that he gets trashed considerably more often than he trashes others.
However, we must keep in mind that Genos is not a weak character. It’s only that the foes he’s up against are just too formidable.
In a battle versus Luffy, though, I don’t think this would be the case.
After all, Genos’ components have grown to the point that his speed, strength, and general destructive skills surpass those of the guy he’s trying to overcome.
Escanor is number four.
Seven Deadly Sins (Anime)
Every anime fan’s favorite confident and proud character has to be Escanor.
He’s also someone that would annihilate the majority of anime characters.
What, you haven’t heard? For breakfast, this man claps both devils and angels!
His strength, speed, durability, and badassery are all messed up to the point that I think he’ll be too much for Luffy to handle.
If Luffy isn’t cautious, he can come up on the receiving end of a Cruel Sun, which would almost certainly finish the fight in an instant.
3. Gilgamesh (Gilgamesh)
Fate Stay Night is a Japanese anime series.
Luffy’s Devil Fruit ability provides some protection against blunt force injuries, although he is still susceptible to bladed weapons like everyone else.
Gilgamesh, for example, has more than a dozen Noble Phantasms at his disposal, an astonishing achievement that makes him by far the most powerful character in the series.
Gilgamesh may use his Gate of Babylon to overwhelm Luffy with his weaponry from afar without even lifting a finger.
Although it may be claimed that Luffy possesses Armament Haki to shield him against such strikes, Noble Phantasms are inherently different from conventional weapons.
After all, these are the World’s Treasures, and a large number of them are in the hands of this half-god, half-human, overpowering enemy.
Sasuke Uchiha (Sasuke Uchiha) (Sasuke
Naruto is a Japanese anime series.
This bout should be a foregone conclusion given Sasuke’s strength and versatility.
While Luffy may be immune to Chidori (or at least resistant to it), Sasuke just possesses too many hax-tier jutsus to compensate.
He possesses Amaterasu, for example, which is much hotter and more difficult to cope with than any other kind of fire.
He’s a Genjutsu and Taijutsu specialist (to put it mildly), which means he can tango with Luffy face to face or from afar.
It makes no difference where, when, or how you do it.
This fight is won ten times out of ten by Sasuke.
Piccolo (first)
Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese animated television series.
Don’t worry about the Saiyans.
Our favorite “good-guy-turned-villain” Luffy already faces a formidable foe in the form of Namekian.
Piccolo’s strength isn’t something to be disregarded, even though he’s spent an increasing amount of his screen time out of the limelight lately.
Luffy is no laughing matter.
Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannons, on the other hand, can practically bore a hole through anything, therefore no amount of Armament Haki could defend him from them.
However, the last time I looked, cannons didn’t merely drill through stuff.
Meh. That, I think, is what makes the move unique.
Who are we to judge this man’s naming sense, after all?
